Scotland: counterfeit alcohol, tobacco seized in anti-smuggling operation

Thecourier.co.uk reported that, a Significant hidden stashes of smuggled alcohol and tobacco have been uncovered and seized during a series of raids across Stirling and Clackmannanshire. Trading Standards Officers joined forces with HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) to purge illegal and potentially harmful products from convenience stores and businesses. Read Article

Counterfeit tobacco sold in a Scottish market has been found to contain more than 30 times the lead levels of genuine tobacco, an investigation has discovered. High levels of toxins, including arsenic and cadmium, were also found in the products being sold by tobacco gangs. Read Article

Scotland, conman uses ID of dead prisoner

A Conman who received £3000 in benefits after using the personal details of a prisoner serving a life sentence has received a four-month jail term. David Williamson supplied the Department of Work and Pensions with Edwin Geirnaert’s national insurance number, pretending he had just been released from jail and needed a crisis loan. Read Article
