Eleven Romanians arrested in Europe after smuggling cocaine from Brazil

Eleven Romanians were arrested for trafficking cocaine from Brazil. Four of the suspects were arrested at airports in Spain and Germany, while the others arrested in Brasov, Romania. The narcotics were brought from Sao Paolo, Brazil in the form of capsules swallowed by the smugglers. Read Article

Romania: businessmen arrested for money laundering

21 people were arrested in Hunedoara on Monday 27th of February, for tax fraud and money laundering exceeding 20 million euros. Silvian Toma, the financer of the FC Hunedoara soccer club was one of the arrested. This criminal organization also operates in the cities of Cluj and Timsoara. Read Article

Romanian prosecutor and two accomplices prosecuted for corruption

Prosecutor Maximilian Balasescu and two accomplices, Cristian Marian Ene and Marian Simirianu were prosecuted for bribery on Friday, Febuary 24th 2012, in a Bucharest court of law. Balasescu was going to drop all charges in a fraud case for the sum of 80,000 EU. Read Article

Romanian attorney sentenced to 25 years for ordering wife’s death, in insurance scam

Victor Teodorescu attorney from Brasov, RO was sentenced to 25 years in prison for paying Ervin Victor Presmereanu to murder his wife. The motive behind the murder was a sum of 150,000 EU insurance money. The victim, Violeta Teodorescu was stabbed to death on March 29, 2011. The murderer, Presmereanu received a 16 year sentence. Romanian citizen arrested Arizona, extradited to Italy for human smuggling charge

Giuliano Matei, a 34 year old Romanian citizen, was arrested in Phoenix, AZ on October 27, 2011. American federal authorities ordered his extradition to Italy on Tuesday 28th of February, where he will be charged with counts of rape and human smuggling of a minor. Read Article

30 police officers from the Bucharest police department were indicted on February 06, 2012.. They were charged with bribery, abuse of power, complicity in prostitution, favoritism, illegal arrest, and torture. Officers were illegally gaining up to 600 RON per shift. Read Article

Romania: Census Department employees under investigation for false passport scheme

Adrian Toma, secretary chief of the Census Register, died of heart attack when he heard his subordinates are under investigation for falsifying Romanian passports to citizens of Republic of Moldova.  About 50 officials are investigated for being involved in this scam.
